(Fred Strauss) Well I have gotten to 43% but keep getting nailed by that darn
pendulum. Has anyone gotten past it?
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) Fred, what I do is go to the first spot on the screen when
the pendulum swings nearest to you, run your head off, jump at the last minute
and pray. Most of the time it works.
(Fred Strauss) Sounds like it is worth a try. Regarding general strategy, do
you folks find that once you have a bow it is worth using all the time or
should I stick with the sword where possible?
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) Fred, you need a bow with the fire throwers.
(Fred Strauss) At about what percentage do the fire throwers come in? I haven't
seen any yet.
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) Fred, they appear at about 50%.
(Dave Vargo) Has anyone found a use for the shield yet?
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) Dave, you can't win without it. It is two screens after
the dragon.
(Dave Vargo) I have the shield. What do I do with it?
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) Dave, not to ruin the surprise, but you will need it later.
(Fred Strauss) BTW, I haven't figured out what it is good for.
(Ted Haskell/Mod) Can I take a poll? How many of you are past the dragon?
(Fred Strauss) Neil, will the situation for the shield be obvious?
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) Fred, read the manual and you will see it.
(Fred Strauss) Thanks. One of my main problems with the game, and I am sure
everyone has a similar beef, is the inability to start from some point in the
middle. I hate having to go back to the start every time!!!
(Ted Haskell/Mod) No, my first game by them. I take it you guys have learned to
preload commands.
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) I normally do the down commands before I reach a ladder.
(Ted Haskell/Mod) Fred, what strategy can you give me?
(Fred Strauss) Well the only thing I can tell you is have a good memory. A
couple of notes though. Don't bother with the tin man. When facing a QBert, I
usually walk towards him, then when he makes his second jump, evade and strike.
Also, on the screen where the guy comes out from the floor, run towards him and
jump just after he shoots. Then strike to destroy the guy walking. Hope these
help.
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) Fred, on qbert I usually run and flip over him.
(Fred Strauss) Neil, I haven't tried that tactic. Does he turn around and come
back?
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) Fred, he does but you easily out run him.
(Ted Haskell/Mod) The tin man is a good point. I got past him once and the game
would not let me take the bow.
(Fred Strauss) Ted, how did you get by him????
(Ted Haskell/Mod) A fluke, I guess. I jumped or something and he kept going.
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) I never got by the tin man.
(Ted Haskell/Mod) I don't think your supposed to.
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) He is just there to scare you.
(Fred Strauss) Ted, another note. I find the easiest way to get the dragon is
right after you enter that screen, fire two arrows quickly and evade
immediately.
(Ted Haskell/Mod) Which means I need the second bow.
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) Fred, I usually just flip over his fireball. You will need
every arrow later on, so save them.
(Fred Strauss) Good point Neil. It just seems so convenient to do away with
him when I can.
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) Fred, when you reach the fire shooters you will wish you
had arrows.
(Fred Strauss) Yeah, but first I have to get past the pendulum.
(Fred Strauss) Do you usually use the sword or arrows against the guys with
the clubs??
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) The club guys are easy to do away with using the sword.
(Ted Haskell/Mod) I've used the sword. Not too effective. Ok, tell me what
comes after the dragon.
(Fred Strauss) Ted, after the dragon comes the screen with the shield. Then
after climbing a series of ladders you come to a series of wooden walkways with
ugly guys with clubs. After this comes a screen with falling dagger traps and
then comes the pendulum. That is as far as I have gotten.
(Ted Haskell/Mod) I've seen the ugly guys. Where is the pendulum?
(Fred Strauss) Keep going up and to the right.
(Ted Haskell/Mod) Ok, I died too soon.
(Fred Strauss) You'll know you are there when the screen changes to a reddish
color.
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) Fred, sometimes I have trouble with the pendulum. Just
need to get lucky.
(Ted Haskell/Mod) Neil, how do you get the second bow?
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) Everyone's way is different but here is mine. First I do
away with the guard. Next I run and flip onto the bow screen so I miss the
trap. Then I run to the bow, grab it and immediately evade out of there.
(Ted Haskell/Mod) Thanks Neil, Fred. Do you guys preload commands?
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) I do Ted. For example I press run, jump, down all at once
and it will follow the order.
(Fred Strauss) What do you mean by preload commands?
(Ted Haskell/Mod) Fred, you have to anticipate in most cases because of program
delays. Also when fighting, some leading is necessary. However, if you lead
too much, both characters usually die.
(Fred Strauss) To your question Ted, yes. Usually when walking down stairs or
climbing ladders.
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) Do you use the joystick?
(Ted Haskell/Mod) I use the mouse. Much better control than joystick.
(Fred Strauss) I am strictly a mouse man myself. An interesting sidelight, in
Faery Tale Adventure I find the joystick much better for combat.
(Ted Haskell/Mod) Right. Also some keyboard is handy tough.
(Robert K) Anyone kill the Ironman?
(Neil Goldsmith/Mod) He is invincible. How far have you gotten, Robert?
(Robert K) Only as far as the bulldog.
(Ted Haskell/Mod) Robert, run and jump.
